Why take the PSAT? High School students who meet published participation requirements can enter the National Merit Scholarship Program by taking the Preliminary SAT/National Merit Scholarship Qualifying Test (PSAT/NMSQT). While California does not require the SAT, some out-of-state colleges and universities may still require it. Therefore, many students are pursuing SAT scores to strengthen their applications to these schools, qualify for scholarships, and to understand their academic strengths and weaknesses. Knowing your numbers will help you make educated choices in the college application process. In addition, by taking a practice PSAT exam, students can determine their potential score and have time to work on improving it if needed. Taking a mock exam is also a great way to determine if taking an official exam is right for you. It's free for Juniors!
